Join us for a weekend dedicated to empowering the next generation, challenging them to innovate creative solutions for the issues our community is facing.
1 Weekend. Countless Moments of Social Innovation.
DreamLarge Weekends is a hands-on, weekend-long program where students work together, along with the guidance of mentors, toward a goal of figuring out unique and creative solutions to community challenges.
A collaborative weekend designed to educate and inspire a creative problem-solving mindset, DreamLarge Weekends will connect youth and philanthropy, empowering their imaginations to make our community a brighter place.
How Does It Work?
We’re connecting the dots between students, mentors, and philanthropy to generate creative solutions to obstacles faced in our community. We’ve asked local nonprofits to share with us the meaningful challenges they’re trying to solve. Groups of students will team up with mentors, and together they’ll create an innovative solution toward addressing these real-world problems.
A local nonprofit organization facing a real problem, obstacle, or challenge will bring its issue to the students.
Sarasota and Manatee County students, ranging from grade 8 to grade 11 will team up and choose a real-world problem to solve, based on a challenge presented by a local nonprofit organization.
Student teams will be partnered up with local mentors. These mentors (innovators, developers, designers, entrepreneurs, teachers, leaders, and professionals in their field) will apply their expertise to solve the problem alongside the students.
Together, the student teams along with their mentors will formulate a plan of action to solve the problem.
How can I get involved as a nonprofit?
In order for the DreamLarge Weekends to be as impactful as possible, we’re soliciting local nonprofits to share the meaningful issues and obstacles they are facing. Ideally, these challenges are ones that will benefit from the creative application and innovation provided by this weekend-long summit. As a local nonprofit, community group, or foundation, you’re invited to apply to have your issues and challenges solved throughout the course of this weekend!
This weekend was born from the Education Foundation of Sarasota County’s Hackathon initiative. Catalyzed in 2016, the Hackathon sought to establish coding skills and technology-based solutions into early-age youth over the course of a weekend.
Acquired by DreamLarge at the start of 2019, it has evolved into an elevated push to reignite creativity and innovation in Sarasota County students. Known for initiatives like the PINC Experience and BLVD Bike Rides, DreamLarge is an organization that aims to empower and inspire the community through innovation, activation, and social impact.
Any Sarasota and Manatee County students from grade 8 to grade 11, local mentors, and local nonprofits.
We’re looking for anyone and everyone! Innovators, creators, marketers, developers, designers, entrepreneurs, teachers, leaders, & everyone in-between. Mentors use their expertise to help students think outside the box and create the best solutions possible.
Any nonprofit, foundation, or community organization in Sarasota County that is facing challenges in its efforts to better our community can apply to have their challenges solved over the course of the DreamLarge Weekend.
This is an opportunity for your organization to utilize the creativity, innovation, and imagination of local students to better achieve your goals, mission, and vision. In doing so comes many opportunities to interact and engage with the younger generation, turning them into future philanthropists, business leaders, and volunteers for your organization.
In turn, we require that at least one member of your organization participate in the Weekend at select times, held on October 11-13th at Ringling College of Art + Design.
As a student, participating in the DreamLarge Weekends teaches problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. This is a great opportunity to flex your creative muscles and connect with mentors and nonprofits from the local community. Plus, it’s FUN. You’ll create meaningful friendships with other students from the Sarasota area.
As a mentor, participating in the DreamLarge Weekends allows you to positively impact the life of a student, while learning about nonprofit challenges and networking with other community leaders.
